BOLIVIA: PRODUCTION OF STEVIA ORGANIC IN THE VALLEYS



Chuquisaca is known by the chili, the peanut, the oregano and now also one seeks to identify to the region with the production of Stevia, that is an original shrub of Paraguay and Brazil used for many years as Sweetener.

A workshop taught the kindness of the Stevia, which of the projections be fulfilling, one would start expanding with major force in the valleys of the Department from the near(next) management

In this perspective, the Center of Advice for the Social Development (CADES) realizes a workshop of the managing and culturing of the Stevia with participants of some Chuquisaca's regions.
" The estevia is a product that is having an increasing market worldwide and the prices are competitive enough. It motivates us to inclining for this option ", said Carlos Moreira, the director of the CADES.

It added that Chuquisaca has great capacity of generation of chili, peanut and oregano, but now the production wants to be promoted of Stevie by your " comparative advantages ".

" We are in touch with the producers' associations that already are in the production of the Stevie and that we wish it is to extend the production in the Department ", he noticed Moreira.

The workshop is dictated by the expert Marco Antonio Siñaniz, the executive director of the Center of Investigation and Stevie's Production (CIPE), who clarified that in Chuquisaca the production of Stevia is not new. " Already experiences are had in Monteagudo, Padilla and Rio Chico with many emphasis in the valleys that we implement approximately four years ago ", said.

Then, which this workshop looks is to industrialize the treatment of the Stevie to project it to the international markets. "Because of it I am here, to show them the varieties, the uses and how to produce ", it annotated.

The leaves(sheets) of the estevia are 30 times more sweet than the sugar and the extract some 200 times more than the sugar cane.
